Urban Horticulture Hub @ Burnley

A new student resource, the Urban Horticulture Hub @ Burnley, aims to create a more vibrant, engaged and work-ready student community at the University of Melbourne’s Burnley Campus. Working with students, academic staff, alumni and partnering with industry associations, the hub will deliver activities that strengthen students’ connections to peers, create new opportunities for knowledge exchange and engagement, and build greater understanding of employment and careers.

The hub caters for graduate coursework students based at Burnley Campus, including those in the Graduate Diploma/Master of Urban Horticulture and Graduate Certificates (Arboriculture, Garden Design, Green Infrastructure). The hub project has two outreach elements:

The Urban Horticulture Website has information on social activities, student-generated information on courses and subjects, a jobs board, internship opportunities, further study and research, alumni blogs and bios and more.

Industry-focused Workshops and Activities  Workshops on careers in urban greening are delivered on-campus and online. These are complemented by industry outreach activities, where students can engage directly with organisations and companies on projects or events to build skills and knowledge. Hub activities kicked off in April 2022 with presentations from five recent Burnley Alumni about their roles in public landscaping and open space management in local government.
