Optimising saline biofilter performance through plant selection
Funding: City of Melbourne, Melbourne Water (2013-2014)
Researchers: Dr Chris Szota, Prof Tim Fletcher and A/Prof Stephen Livesley
Background
Saline stormwater in coastal cities often reduces biofilter plant species performance. In this project, we assessed the effect of saline stormwater on the biofilter performance of current and alternative plant species.
We explored whether saline stormwater reduces filter and vegetation capacity to improve water quality, and plant species that are most tolerant to saline storm water and salt accumulation.
