Green Roof Maintenance Matters – Presenter Profiles

Associate Professor John Rayner

John is a senior lecturer and director of Urban Horticulture at The University of Melbourne’s Burnley Campus. His teaching and research interests are focused around the design and use of plants in the urban landscape (recent work includes the woody meadows joint research project with the University of Sheffield, UK), green roofs and facades and therapeutic landscapes.

John co-lead the University’s green roofs research and development program, and together with his colleagues established the Burnley Green Roofs, Australia’s first dedicated green roofs research, education and outreach facility at Burnley Campus. He has co-authored the award winning Growing Green Guide, a resource to support green infrastructure design and construction and regularly acts as a horticultural consultant and engage widely with industry.

 

Michael Casey

Michael is an award-winning registered horticulturist with a passion for sustainable urban horticulture and therapeutic horticulture. He is a specialist in the field of green infrastructure. His work alongside some of Melbourne’s best architects and developers has encouraged and strengthened his passion for greening city buildings, schools and residential houses.

 

Sara Hardgrove

Sarah is a horticulturalist and landscape designer who runs her own part time consulting, design and maintenance business, Wildgrove Horticulture. Much of her work involves design, install and maintenances of rooftop gardens & courtyards, green roofs and green walls for residential and commercial clients. She also works part time as a horticulturalist at Bulleen Art & Garden. Sarah is passionate about sustainable gardening, urban agriculture, urban greening and enhancing biodiversity.

 

Scott Sherwood

Scott Sherwood is Fytogreen’s National Maintenance Manager and Manager Fytogreen NSW. Fytogreen supplies, installs and maintains both commercial and residential projects and is the largest supplier to the roof garden industry in Australia.
