Global Knowledge Exchange in Urban Ecology

GIRG recently joined German colleagues and students for the inaugural Comparative Urban ecology Research Training (CURT) conference (18-19th May). Dr Amy Hahs, Prof Nick Williams and PhD candidate Julia Schiller delivered the online event with colleagues at the Technical University Berlin (Dr Tanja Straka, Chente Ortiz) and Free University Berlin (Prof Jonathan Jeschke, PhD student Simon Moesch). The conference is part of a project funded by the University of Melbourne – Berlin University Alliance 2021 Joint Research Training Program.

The first session saw presentations from members of the three partner Universities with GIRG joined by University of Melbourne colleagues from the Waterway Ecosystem Research Group (WERG) and the Urban Light Lab in BioSciences.  Day two was a series of break out discussions sessions where researchers and students identified research themes that will be the focus of monthly working groups for the remainder of 2021. University of Melbourne researchers from other schools and faculties are welcome to participate in future CURT activities.
