Green Roof, Walls and Facades Summits

Our green infrastructure researchers recently ran two highly successful industry summits in Sydney and Melbourne to create a vision, and identify pathways, for greater greening in cities throughout Australia. The Green Roof, Walls and Facades Summits brought together researchers and over 60 practitioners from green infrastructure industries.

The summits were led by Dr Kate Lee, Prof Leisa Sargent (UNSW Business School), A/Prof Nick Williams and facilitated by Tanya James (Positive Change and Development).
Practitioners included architects and landscape architects, green roof installers, state government, water retailers, and substrate and nursery suppliers. The summits were part of an industry-funded collaborative research project examining the benefits of demonstration green roofs in overcoming barriers to implementation in Australia.
Others on the summit planning team included Prof Kathryn Williams, A/Prof Katherine Johnson (Melbourne School of Psychological Sciences), Mo Ritchie (Campus Design and Planning), City of Melbourne, Oculus landscape architects, and Junglefy living infrastructure designers and installers.

The summits were an excellent opportunity for knowledge exchange and creating networks for future collaboration. In addition to research outputs, planned outcomes from the summits include a co-designed position paper outlining steps to practical implementation of greener cities across Australia.

The summits were part of the Demonstration Green Roof Project. Read a summary of the outcomes.
